Later that night, I kiss my corsage and place it down gently on my nightstand. Daven assured me that on the actual day of the dance, heâll replace it with a real one. He just wanted to get me one for now to show me how much he wants to be with me. Such a sweet guy. What will I ever do without him?
I yawn. I had stayed up to three in the morning studying for big test tomorrow, and I feel ready to crash and never wake up again. It only took seconds after my head hit the pillow for me to fall fast asleep.
âBella, Bella Nova,â a mysterious and deep voice calls out again.
I slowly open my eyes and find myself back on that squishy asphalt, my elbows burning as I lean them against the ground. âOuch!â
âWhoâs out there?â I call out. âShow yourself! Iâm tired of playing games.â
Again, out of the corner of my eye, I see a dark figure, dark as midnight, an arm this time, and I follow it as it runs behind the same large rock.
âGotcha!â I shout when I turn the corner and look behind the rock. Empty. No oneâs there. Damn it! I was so sure the animal had hidden here, and that Iâd find it.
But when I turn back around, I see a monster, a tall and dark monstrous creature with midnight black skin and red eyes. Perched on the top of his head are large horns, resembling that of a ram. I want to scream, run away from the creature and pray for my life. But all that came out is a quiet yelp, followed by me slightly backing away.
The strange thing though, is that this monster is sort of⦠handsome? And I find myself extremely attracted to him, or it, or whatever it is. Is that weird? He looks so much like Daven! Maybe my immense attraction for Daven had manifested as a dream, and this monster is actually him.
âWho are you?â I ask again. âDaven? Is that you?â
The creature remains silent, but starts to walk over to me. I canât stop staring into his deep red eyes, eyes that look so perfect, pulling me in and enchanting me. Then he touches my face, and I can feel that part of it turning stiff before returning back to its natural state just seconds later.
âDaven?â I ask again.
But the creature shakes his head. âMy name is Draven Asmodeus. I am a demon of the Underworld, and I need your help.â
I nearly fall back at his words! âUnderworld?â
âHell.â
I spring up on my bed, sweat pouring down my forehead and neck. I look around, and I feel so relieved to find myself back in my own bedroom. The night is still dark, and when I look over at my phone, I still have two hours before the sun rises.
Itâs all just a dream. Itâs all just a dream. But even so, why did it feel so real? What the hell have I been eating lately? Ugh, I place a hand on my forehead.
